Welcome to Nalepinski on the Web (NOTW). If you were looking for my business website, please visit www.ryannalepinski.com.
NOTW will begin with my thoughts and experiences in 8 years of professional website and multi-media development. Where this will go, I don't really know.
User interface, web designer and programmer
I am one of five designers working for Web Team Associates, Inc. (WTA). WTA is the interactive department of U-Haul which resides under the umbrella of AMERCO.
In December of 2006, I was asked by the Director of WTA to attend a meeting from the CEO of U-Haul on the subject of sustainability. Sustainability has long been something of great interest to me so of course I jumped at the opportunity. Why I was chosen might have had to do with the fact that it was near the end of the year and I was the only designer there at the time. But I would like to think fate had something to do with it as well.
After that meeting I was the sustainability contact for the web design team. Although all the designers are competent enough to fill in for anyone at any time from a technical competency standpoint, it would be a logistical impossibility for all the designers to have the same in-depth knowledge of every project. I was lucky enough to fall into subject matter that I had an interest in. Through my years of experience I know that this is very rarely the case and am, therefore, very grateful.
In addition to working full-time at U-Haul, I work on website projects part-time. These experiences will also be covered.
Personal trainer
I am also a certified personal trainer.
“What?”
Yes, you read that right, a personal trainer.
”What does being a personal trainer have to do with the web or user interface design?“ you may be asking.
Well, technically, nothing. It does, however, have everything to do with sustainability. What is sustainability other than ridding a certain context of inefficiencies?
Through teaching my clients about proper fitness exercises and nutrition, I am able to help them take steps to add functional time to their lives.
